Top-Notch Performance and Technical Misfortune at the 47th ADAC Barbarossapreis: Engine Fire Stops NGK Ferrari

A first-rate performance by the drivers, the team and the vehicle saw the NGK Racing Team Ferrari 458 Challenge virtually fly along the bone-dry circuit of the Nürburgring Nordschleife for the fifth VLN run of the season.

Following a hard-fought qualifying round with an extremely close result, the red and black racing machine started from 3rd position in the SP8 class and temporarily claimed the number two spot. The podium seemed a sure thing until just before 15:00 hrs, when gasoline which had run into the motor tray presumably during the refueling stop ignited and spelled the premature end of the race for the team. Fortunately, major damage was prevented, but the fire took out the engine electronics – a defect which could not be rectified on such short notice.

“Everything just was a perfect fit today. The drivers took advantage of the glorious weather and consistently delivered very fast lap times. Once again, we have proven that we are right up there in the top group of the SP8. Of course, we are extremely disappointed that something like an engine compartment fire ultimately spoiled an otherwise brilliant performance. We will now painstakingly analyze the causes,” team head Per Baar points out. “In three weeks, we will have our return match!”

Right on time for the next race, the 38th RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen on 22 August 2015, the NGK Racing Team will again check in at the most beautiful, and most challenging, race course in the world: the Nürburging.
