04.09.11Season best result for Richardson

George Richardson will walk away from Knockhill this weekend with his head held high after claiming his best finish of the season. The 19-year-old has looked happy behind the wheel all weekend, but saved the best for race day with two superb drives.

The Manchester-based driver looks to have rediscovered his form by guiding his Porsche Carrera GT3 Cup car to 2nd in class and 10th overall in race 1. After a positive qualifying session yesterday, George was confident going into the race, but surpassed all expectations by claiming 2nd in the Pro-am 1 class in the first 32-lap race of the day.

In race two, George was hoping for more of the same as the Scottish circuit boasted perfect track conditions. Sadly Richardson didn’t quite replicate the result from the first race but still managed to guide his Motorbase Performance machine to 14th overall and 5th in class. George looked comfortable in the car but at a circuit which is notoriously hard to master, he just couldn’t force a move on the guys in front as they were running identical lap times.

A jubilant Richardson commented “We came here this weekend with high hopes and this time we have delivered. We have worked well all weekend and got the results we wanted when it counts. In race one I felt so comfortable in the car and managed to make up a lot of ground. It felt good to be running so far up the field and fighting with the class leading drivers. Also the lap times were good and we made a lot of progress with the car.”

”Race 2 was eventful, I didn’t get the best start and some drivers passed me, which meant I was forced to work hard and push my tyres really hard in the early laps. Sadly that cost me because I didn’t have the grip when I needed it at the end to pass the drivers in front and get on the podium. Still, my lap times were strong and my best time was only half a second off the class leader, so I can take that as a real positive. I just hope this is the start of something really good for us. I cannot wait for the next one!"

Now Richardson will move onto Rockingham - another circuit he enjoys - in a bid to continue the good work. Last year George mounted the podium at the Derbyshire circuit in both Pro-am 2 races and will hope for more of the same this time round.
