08.08.11Tough weekend for Richardson at Snetterton
This weekend saw Porsche Carrera Cup GB competitor George Richardson take to the track as the second half of the one-make series got underway. This time out the 19-year-old was in Norfolk at the all new Snetterton 300 circuit and was looking to continue his good form from Oulton Park.
Sadly, technical issues plagued George and the Motorbase Performance Team throughout Qualifying and he was left to fight from 18th on the grid for the two 14-lap races on Sunday. However, George remained focused knowing a good start was imperative.
Unfortunately, come Race 1, George paid the price for being a little too eager to redress the balance and jumped the start, resulting in a drive through penalty and eliminating any chance of catching the leaders. Still George returned to the track and worked hard to salvage some points, eventually making it back up to 19th and 8th in class.
Come race two, the Manchester-based driver was ready to make up for what was turning out to be a tough weekend for the aspiring driver. In the early laps George looked strong and made some assertive moves through the pack, claiming five positions in the first two laps. But luck was not on George’s side as he was clipped from behind and spun off the track. The Motorbase Performance driver struggled to get the car restarted and eventually rejoined the race at the back of the field. Still the Manchester man kept his head down and managed to post the third fastest time in class and work his way through to a respectable 16th place and 6th in class.
George commented “It has just been one of those weekends to be honest. We have had a lot of bad luck mixed with a few mistakes on my part and with that we just never really got going. I felt good in the car and in race two I was really happy with the lap times I was doing on race tyres. I think we could have pushed for the podium had I not been knocked off the track. But that’s racing and you just have to learn from weekends like this and move forward. We haven’t had much bad luck this year to be honest, but this weekend it seemed to all have come at once.”
“Now we have another month until Knockhill for the team and myself to regroup and re-focus. I still feel confident and I know I can run in the top three on a regular basis, we just need some good fortune at the next one and to try and stay out of trouble. I am going to get back in the gym now and just set my sights on the next round. I would like to thank the Motorbase guys for all their efforts and hard work throughout the weekend and all my sponsors for their continued support of my racing.”
