23.08.10Two podiums for Richardson at Silverstone
Porsche Carrera Cup GB driver George Richardson secured two podium finishes this weekend at Silverstone (22nd August, 2010) after another impressive performance behind the wheel of his Porsche Carrera GT3 Cup car. The Pro-am2 driver, who is supported by Henderson Insurance Brokers, continued his rich vein of form taking his podium tally to six for the year.
Following a solid qualifying, George lined up on the grid in 3rd place for the two races on Sunday. In race one George battled hard and looked to have secured a 2nd place finish but was pushed down to 3rd where he remained until the chequered flag.
Race two was almost a carbon copy of race one. George settled into a good rhythm early on and did all he could to pressure the front two. George worked hard and looked aggressive behind the wheel but sadly the pace of the front two was again too much in the final laps. The Cheshire-based driver was happy to secure another podium finish.
After another consistent showing, George commented, "I was quite frustrated with how qualifying went. We were so close to pole in class, but also our times were close to the Pro and Pro-am 1 drivers, so we could have been much further up the grid with just a bit more luck on our side.
"I was confident we had the pace to do well in the races, and the tyres were in good shape, we just needed some minor adjustments race day morning to help us deal with the humid weather conditions."
"Race one was going well, I was looking set for a 2nd place finish until the last few laps when I was overtaken by Brewster who had managed to save his tyres a bit better. And then we had another podium in the second race so more good points for the Championship."
"I know that we're improving massively race by race; my braking has got a lot better and the gap to the rest of the field is coming down all the time. I just need to carry on gaining experience and keeping myself on the podium consistently."
