19.08.10Silverstone awaits for Richardson
Porsche Carrera Cup GB driver George Richardson heads to the home of British Motorsport this weekend as he prepares to do battle in Round 7 of the 2010 series. Last time out at Snetterton, Richardson from Alderley Edge, Cheshire, climbed the podium in both races claiming two third place finishes. The ever confident teenager will no doubt be aiming to go even better this weekend at Silverstone as he continues to learn and gather pace as the season progresses.
Eighteen year old Richardson, the youngest driver in the Porsche Carrera Cup field, contests the pro-am2 class of the prestigious series, which runs alongside the British Touring Car Championship.
Currently the home of the Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix and the World Motorcycle Grand Prix, this former wartime airfield circuit can boast being one of the world's foremost motorsport venues. Silverstone hosted the first ever round of the F1 World Championship in 1948, and over the years has developed to meet the needs of the modern sporting era. With the development of the new arena GP circuit, Silverstone is now one of the longest and fastest tracks on the 2010 calendar at 3.667 miles.
The Motorbase Performance driver, who is supported by Henderson Insurance Brokers commented, "Silverstone is one of those places which every driver dreams of racing at, so to go there and race the new circuit will be a dream come true for me. I got to drive the new arena circuit earlier in the year at the press day and I really enjoyed it. The new layout is fast and flowing, with a lot of run off, so you can really attack the track. The times we were doing at the press day were extremely competitive, obviously a lot will have changed since then, but I am confident we can go there and perform."
