Young British racing driver George Richardson is setting off for the Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France intent on consolidating his successes with JMW Motorsports in this year’s European Le Mans Series.
Paul Ricard is the penultimate of the five races in the series, and the stakes are high. Solid performances up to this point have put the JMW Motorsports team in third place in the LMGTE class, behind AF Corse at the top of the table and the Russian team SMP Racing in second. Though both Kessel Racing and AT Racing are only a few points behind JMW, George is unphased and confident the team have the pace to succeed.
“We’ve put in the effort,” he says, “and we’ve got a great team both on track and off. I’m absolutely convinced we can do what it takes both to keep us on the podium and to improve our ranking significantly.”
Since the team’s last race at the Red Bull ring in July, George has spent the summer on simulator work, building on experience of the Paul Ricard circuit gained during pre-season testing with JMW Motorsports – when the team came in consistently near the top of the time sheets. He has also been improving still further his physical fitness with cycle rides taking in the tough climbs of his local Peak District hills.
“I’m feeling really well prepared, both mentally and physically. I know in detail what to expect from the track, so I’ll be able to concentrate closely on getting the best performance from the car itself.”
George will be racing with JMW co-drivers Daniel McKenzie and new addition to this years’ team, James Walker. He has every confidence in the revised line-up: “Dan and I have been working together brilliantly,” he says, “and it’s fantastic to now have James on board. He completed full ELMS seasons for JMW in both 2011 and 2012, so he knows both the car and the track inside out – and he’s also a good friend!”
George is keen to thank his team and his sponsors, Henderson Insurance, Starhome Hire, members of the GR Paddock Club, Gassan Diamonds and Everything Motorsport.com.
“With a good result this weekend, we’ll be heading into the final race in a strong position for a series victory”, he says. “It’s been an incredible year and it’s down to the guys at JMW and my partners for making it all possible.”
