George Richardson sets his sights on the ELMS championship

George Richardson is heading off to the final European Le Mans Series (ELMS) race at Estoril with the JMW Motorsports team determined to end the series on a high.

The team now have three ELMS podiums in a row behind them, putting championship second place within their grasp and a possible over all championship title.

George is confident the team have what it takes to walk away with a trophy.

“We’re very well-prepped; we’ve got the pace, and we’ve got a fantastic team behind us,” he says. “It’s an important weekend, and there’s lots of pressure from outside to do well, but I’m feeling very comfortable and well prepared to win.”

This will be George’s first time at Estoril, so he’s been working hard to get to know the circuit intimately. “I’ve spent a great deal of time in the simulator,” he explains. “I’ve also gone back to basics, talking through the track in detail with people who know it well.”

In addition to simulator time, George has been broadening his driving skills by testing stock cars on an oval track. “It’s been interesting to see the synergies and differences between this and what I’m used to”, he says. “Tim (my manager) invited me to join in on a test to demonstrate the similarities in driving a stock car well. I really loved it and hope to be back out in one again soon.”

George’s physical fitness is as good as it’s ever been, with continued cycle outings in the Peak District hills. He recently completed the Cheshire Cobbled Classic Cycle Race, a tough 65-mile hill race featuring twelve cobbled sections of which five are climbs exceeding 20% in gradient. He describes the race as “treacherous and painful – but a great experience!”

The Estoril weekend sees the JMW Motorsports team back to its start-of-the season formation of George plus co-driversDaniel McKenzie and Daniel Zampieri. “It’s great to be ending the series working with the two Daniels again,” says George. “So much has happened since we started the season together at Silverstone. It’s been a brilliant summer, and it’s just fantastic to have spent my first year in the ELMS championship in the podium at every race bar one”.

George is very aware that his success relies on the support of his sponsors: Henderson Insurance, Starhome Hire, members of the GR Paddock Club, Gassan Diamonds and Everything Motorsport.com

“A huge thanks go out to all my sponsorsand to everyone who has helped me prepare for the title decider this weekend,” he says. “They’ve all put their faith in me and I don’t plan to let them down – I’m out to win at Estoril!”
