Young British endurance driver George Richardson last Sunday stepped onto the podium for the third time in three races in this years’ European Le Mans Series (ELMS) championship. The podium follows on from 2 third place finishes for George and the JMW Motorsports team at both the Red Bull Ring and Imola earlier in the season.
“It was a brilliant weekend,” says George, now home in the UK but still buzzing from the achievement. “Three podiums in three races is just fantastic. All the preparation paid off, and I’m really pleased with my own personal performance as well as with how the team as a whole came together.”
The race was tightly fought right up until the final stages, with George and his co-drivers in the JMW Motorsports’ Ferrarri 458 keeping up the pressure on close contenders AF Corse, AT Racing and SMP Racing throughout. A fastest-in-race pit stop saved vital seconds, as did the decision to double-stint tyres – JMW were the only team in the race to take the gamble to double-stint, and it paid off handsomely.
“The race was very intense and competitive throughout, I was delighted to be working with such good people and as a whole im very proud to be part of such a awesome team”
Off-track, George was pleased to be able to show his appreciation to a group of his sponsors who came as guests to the event. The group of five enjoyed dinner with George on the Friday night and experienced the behind-the-scenes thrill of activities in the garage during both the preparations for the race and the race itself.
“It’s thanks to my partners that I’ve been able to succeed in the sport and be on the podium at this level”, he says. “Henderson Insurance, Starhome Hire, the GR Paddock Club members, Gassan Diamonds and Everything Motorsport.com – they’ve all given me fantastic support and I’m hugely grateful for everything they do.”
Prospects are now looking good for an overall championship podium place as the team prepare for the final race of the season at Estoril on the 19th October. “We’ve shown what we can do,” says George, “and I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got when I take the car out onto the track at Estoril for the final push.”
