George Richardson celebrates top three place in European Le Mans Series championship 2014

Twenty-two year old British endurance racing driver George Richardson and JMW Motorsport team-mates are celebrating a third-place victory in the 2014 ELMS Championship.

Keeping a fast pace throughout, the team won their fourth ELMS third-place podium in succession at the final race of the season on Sunday at Estoril. Having started the race with Austrian team AT Racing just one point behind, JMW Motorsport’s third position put them a clear eight points ahead of the Austrian team and earned them the series trophy.

“We set out to be on the championship podium,” says George. “And we did it! We’d done the preparation, we knew we had a good set-up, and everything fell into place on the day. The entire JMW team were fantastic and my own stint was one of the best I’ve ever driven.”

With podium positions in four out of the five races, 2014 has been a memorable first ELMS season for George – and he’s not planning to relax just yet. Though the champagne was flowing at last night’s glittering championship dinner at the Estoril Casino, George was up bright and early ready for the start of winter testing today. He’ll soon be off to Italy to kick-start winter training with some gruelling cycle work also.

George is very much aware that his success is a team effort.

“I’m really grateful to everyone who has helped me get this far: The JMW Motorsports team for giving me the opportunity and for providing the best back-up anyone could want – the car didn’t skip a beat all year; my family, my manager Tim and my personal support team, and, of course my brilliant sponsors – Henderson Insurance, Starhome Hire, members of the GR Paddock Club, Gassan Diamonds and EverythingMotorsport.com”

After the summer’s achievements, George is keen to be back in the championship next year. “I’d love to be back in the ELMS, and to race again with JMW Motorsports,” he says. “I’m confident that with everything I’ve learnt this year, I can contribute to even greater successes next season.”
