Towards the end of last week I decided to take a few days out and head to Spain for a short break in the sun. I love jetting off for a few days and spending some time away from everything. I have never been someone who likes spending weeks on holiday because I just get bored! So a few days here and there are perfect for me and I had a great time.
But now I am back in the UK and ready to get back in the gym and get focused. This season seems so disjointed. As we missed the Nurburgring round we have had some lengthy gaps between rounds so finding a rhythm has been difficult. I just want to get out there and put the demons from Snetterton to bed!
When we last spoke, I was heading down to Kent to spend some time with the guys from Motorbase to get swatted up on my mechanical knowledge and do some testing at Brands. It was a really good day actually and I definitely came away knowing a lot more and feeling a lot better. At this level of competition, you really need to know everything about the car and how to make it work if you are going be successful and progress. I am confident in my driving ability; I just need to improve my knowledge and set-up. Something that comes with time and experience behind the wheel I guess.
Tomorrow (Thursday) I am planning on spending a couple of hours in the simulator in preparation for Knockhill. The simulator is great because you can change the tracks; so I will be focusing on getting my lines and braking markers dialled in. I will be working with a new engineer when we head to Scotland and he has some really good ideas. We spent some time working on a few areas at Brands and he made some dramatic changes and suggestions that seemed to really work. I am looking forward to working with him for sure and seeing what we can come up with.
Everything I am doing now is in preparation for the next race and getting my season back on track. We have had our fair share of bad luck this season and I’m hoping for a good weekend up in Scotland. It’s a circuit I love and one which has always been good to me so I am going to be pushing for the podium that’s for sure. It’s the business end of the season now and I need to show everyone what I can do!
