17.10.11Season ends on a high for Richardson

Porsche Carrera Cup GB driver George Richardson has finished the season in style with a successful outing at Silverstone. The 19-year-old took two podiums after putting in a first-rate performance. Times were incredibly tight at the Northamptonshire circuit but Richardson managed to stay ahead of the pack and secured his best finish - a second place in class and seventh overall.

Things started well for the Manchester teenager in qualifying on Saturday, where he finished third in class, just eight tenths of a second short of pole position. Everything came together for Sunday’s decider, and with George starting out well there was never any doubt of a great result. The second and third place podium means he finishes the season in fifth overall, having moved up into the Prom-am 1 class for the first time this year.

The Motorbase Performance driver was delighted with the result, saying: “I’m so pleased we’ve finished the season on a high – I’m sad that it’s come to an end, but finishing like we did means that I’ve got lots of options open for next season. Now it’s time to weigh everything up and have a look at where we go from here – we’re in a good position.

“This weekend was fantastic, it was a great race obviously and I had all my family, friends and sponsors there for support. In total there were about 20 guests, including representatives from Henderson Insurance.

“The season overall was a mixed bag, but after round five we really started to make progress and improve performance. It took a while getting to grips with the car but when we got a new engineer in place everything really started to come together and we started getting the podiums and really seeing the fruits of our labour.”

George first joined the Motorbase Performance Team in 2008 on a planned multi-year basis. He achieved an amazing year in 2010, claiming third in the Pro-am 2 championship with six wins and numerous podium and the prestigious “most improved driver of the year”. He entered the Pro-am 1 class this year with an opportunity to prove himself against the best drivers in the class – something he has certainly managed to do.

George is currently reviewing ambitious progression plans for next season, but would like to thank Henderson Insurance in particular for their sponsorship this year, and hopes that they can be part of his plans going forward.

We will bring news of George's new plans and contract negotiations as they happen, in the lead up to next season!
