Porsche Carrera Cup GB driver George Richardson is preparing himself for another action packed outing this weekend as he heads to the infamous Rockingham circuit in Northamptonshire. After a strong weekend at Knockhill last time out, 19 year-old Richardson is feeling confident as he heads to a circuit which a requires prefect setup and total commitment in order to come away on top.
Rockingham is Europe’s fastest banked oval racing circuit, with the unbeaten oval lap record boasting an average speed of 215.397mph. The Northamptonshire-based circuit offers multiple in-field circuit configurations, featuring hairpins, straights and chicanes with ample passing, playing host to a range of race events including the British Touring Car Championship, British F3/GT and the Pickup Truck Racing Championship on the oval.
Having recently tested at Rockingham, George is feeling confident going into round 8 of the 2011 season. The Manchester-man currently lies fifth in the championship and would like to consolidate that spot by having a strong end to what has been a tough debut year in the pro-am 1 series. But recent form suggests George is back to his best and looking forward to taking it up a gear this weekend.
George commented “Both the team and I are really looking forward to this weekend. We have tested at Rockingham on a number of occasions and I know the circuit really well. It’s a difficult track in terms of setup because it is made up of two parts. The infield is slow and technical but once you exit the final corner you are up onto the banking for a really fast part of the circuit. Still we have worked hard to get the car dialled in and we should be in good shape.
Last time out at Knockhill we made some real progress with the car and I worked hard on myself to improve my driving. The Motorbase Team have been great this year and are doing all they can to help me progress. The working relationship with my new engineer is proving beneficial and together we should be strong going into the final three rounds of the year.
This weekend I am also looking forward to welcoming guests of Henderson Insurance Brokers as they continue their amazing level of support. I’m sure they will really enjoy the event and I hope to give them something good to shout about”
